This week’s construction update
The Hawaiian Dredging crews continued with work on the concrete columns and walls for the parking structure. Additional sections of the ground floor concrete pavement were also poured this week. The Hawaiian Dredging crews are also continuing to work on the formwork for the second floor concrete beams. The MIRA crews complete the re-paving the Main and Church Street intersection this past week. We appreciate the public’s cooperation during the Main Street closure on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Mayor Victorino proposes Center for Hula and Associated Arts in emerging Wailuku Arts District
This week, Mayor Michael Victorino announced that a group of Maui Kumu Hula and the County of Maui are in early planning stages to establish a cultural center called “Hālau of ʻŌiwi Art,” to be located in Wailuku, Maui. Hālau of ʻŌiwi Art will be dedicated to the study, practice, celebration and perpetuation of hula and various ‘ōiwi arts connected to hula. The center will be in support of the Huamakahikina Declaration, ratified by an international coalition of Kumu Hula and adopted by resolution by the Maui County Council this fall. It will be the first of its kind and the largest investment by any county or the state to establish a permanent place for hula and associated ʻōiwi arts.

The Hawaiian Dredging crews continued with work on the concrete columns and walls for the parking structure. Additional sections of the ground floor concrete pavement were also poured this week. The Hawaiian Dredging crews also began preparing forms for the second floor concrete beams. The MIRA crews will be paving the Main and Church Street intersection next week Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Main Street between High and Market Street will be closed from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am on both nights.

Full road detour announced Feb. 8-9 for Main Street in Wailuku
The County of Maui Department of Management announces that a full road closure on Main Street in Wailuku, between Market and High Streets, will occur from 9 p.m. Feb. 8 to 5 a.m. Feb. 9 and from 9 p.m. Feb. 9 to 5 a.m. Feb. 10. Crews from MIRA Image Construction LLC will be working on repaving the road at the intersection at Church and Main Streets.

Due to the ongoing work on Vineyard Street, motorists and pedestrians should be cautious when traversing through the area. Please also drive with caution on Vineyard Street as lane closures will be occurring during the day. The Wailuku Parking lot is now completely closed. Parking is available in various locations, as well as free shuttle service on Da Bee.
